Is it Tryable?

Tonight for dinner we are having one of the most nutritious dinners in the world.  It consists of hamburgers, corn on the cob, and fresh pineapple.  So I was cutting the pineapple and Hannah comes in to help me.  She immediately comments that she doesn't like pineapple because it is spicy and it has holes in it (I am assuming the pits are the holes).  I then told her that she needed to try it before she decides she doesn't like it.  About 10 seconds or so after I give her a piece, I look at her and she is just staring at it.  This is how the rest of our conversation goes...

Me:  What are you doing?
Hannah:  I am deciding if it is tryable.
Me:  Well, you know what I think about that don't you?
Hannah:  I have to try it at least once, right?
Me:  Yes
A couple seconds later
Hannah:  You know mom, I have tried it once.
Me:  You have!
Hannah:  Yeah, Once upon a dream (think of your most dramatic princess voice you can and that is the one she used)
While I was still processing and trying to keep myself from laughing, she does try the pineapple to which I ask her how she liked it.
Her response was "I think it is very tryable mom!  I really like it!"
What I want to know, is do we really have to have all the drama just to try a piece of pineapple?

Classic Skating

Last Thursday was our annual Activity Days Skating Activity.  I have to admit, I wasn't really excited to go especially after a long day at work.  I was however excited that my friends Nisha and Katie were going and taking their little girls that are a little younger than Hannah.  I decided to take Hannah and let her play with Sophie and Delila.  It turned out to be a lot of fun.  Hannah wasn't too sure what to think of the skates.  (I personally thought they were the cutest littlest things I had ever seen, see picture above).  I thought she did a great job skating (as long as I held her hand and she was skating on the carpet).  She only fell like 3 times, but after the third time she looked at me and said "Mom, I don't love this at all".  After that we played the "I want to skate, I don't want to skate" game, which resulted in mom taking off skates and putting skates back on for about a half hour.

GOOD TIMES!!!

Pink Eye

So Hannah has her first case of pink eye.  I feel really bad for her and her eye looks so bad.  On Monday night for family night we went to the Legacy Center to go swimming.  I am sure that is where she picked it up.  Not only do I feel bad for her, but I am really grossed out by the fact that she got it at the pool.  Now, I am not totally naive enough to think that there aren't gross things involved with public pools, but I have never been a victim of "pool poison".

Yesterday after we took her to the doctor she discovered that she was going to have to put drops in her eyes.  I was a little worried about this because ever since she got soap in her eyes over the summer, she freaks out if we even get a little bit of water in her eyes in the bathtub.  After much coaxing and a few treats, we were successful with her first experience with eye drops.  Way to go Hannah, we are so proud of you, and we hope you start feeling better really soon.
As a side note, we decided to have her 3 year check up at the same time and Hannah is in the 73rd percentile for height and 50th percentile for weight.

Chrysanthemum

For Christmas Chad bought me a set of books called Lily and Friends.  The books in this set are by Kevin Henkes and they are really cute.  One of the best books is called Chrysanthemum.  This is a book that I read to my class every year at the beginning of the year.  It is really cute.  Well, since then Hannah has taken over my books and has decided that Chrysanthemum is her favorite book.  What is really funny to me is that she can't say the name of the book.  Ask her to say anything else and her speech is totally clear, but not Chrysanthemum.  For months I have been thinking that I need to get her saying it on video, and last night I finally did.  It is the funniest thing.

A Dog or a Horse

So last night we went to dinner with my Aunt Billie and cousins, Eliza and Cody.  Eliza lives in California, and she is here for a couple of days visiting.  I haven't been to their house in forever, but when I walked in, I was greeted by a horse.  Now I just got done reading Pippy Longstocking to my kids, so I am perfectly aware that some people have horses in their house as pets.  No really, it was actually a huge DOG!  I couldn't believe it.  My first thought was that Hannah was going to freak out when she came in.  To my surprise she was totally cool with it.  To her it was totally normal and cool.  Who is this child anyway?  She just went right up the horse/dog and started playing like nothing was strange about it.  Kids sure do have a funny way of surprising you don't they.

Green Eggs and Ham!!

Last week was Dr. Seuss week in first grade.  It was a lot of fun, and we got to do many crazy projects.  We made Dr. Seuss creatures and then wrote stories about them.  This was one of my favorite activities.  The kids were so creative, and they loved it.

On Friday, we made green eggs and ham.  I told the kids on Thursday that we were going to do this, and they were completely grossed out.  In fact on Friday morning I had a student go home early and I suspect that he was a little nervous about Green Eggs and Ham.
Anyway, we started by putting all the steps to make them on the board.  The kids had to tell me which order the steps went in.  Then, I introduced sequencing words, like first, then, after, finally.  Finally I gave them each a bowl with an egg in it, a cup of milk, a bag with ham in it, and they had to follow the steps.  One little girl cracked her egg and it dripped all down the front of her.  She immediately went into hysterics.  I have to say, that out of 28 kids, I was pretty impressed that I only had one egg disaster.
When it came time to trying the eggs, the kids made me try first.  They were really funny.  Most of them loved the eggs and asked if we could make more.  I know they look pretty gross, but they actually weren't too bad.  The worst part was having my room smell like eggs for the rest of the afternoon.

YUMMY!!!

What a wonderful weekend

This weekend was really long, but really fun for us. It turned out to be all about Hannah's birthday, and we loved every minute of it. Here's how it went down
Friday Night
I got home from school and got Hannah ready to go and get her pictures taken at JCPenny. The pictures turned out so cute, and I can't wait to share them with all of you. I get to pick them up on Saturday. After pictures we took Hannah to the Tomato place for dinner. (This is really Souplantation) She loves this place and has been asking for the last month to go. We had a great time, and when we got home at 10:00, it was time to start making the cakes.
Ok before I go on, the cake I decided to make turned out to be a beast. It was so time consuming, but it turned out beautiful.
So I ended up buying 4 cake mixes to make this cake. The bottom layer of the cake was actually two 12" round cakes. Each of these took one whole cake mix to make. The top layer was two 6" round cakes. I made both of these in addition to 24 cupcakes. This again took 2 cake mixes. The very last cake that I made was one of the 12" cakes. It was really late and I took it out of the oven too soon. Needless to say when I came to look at it, it was all sunken in the middle. At this point it was 1:00am and there was nothing I could do, so I went to bed.
Saturday
I woke up at 6:00 to head to the store and buy another cake mix. I got home and finished the cake without any more glitches. Well then it was time to make the icing. I soon realized that I hadn't taken any butter out of the freezer to thaw out, so I put it in the microwave to defrost. I made a double batch of icing and soon found out that wasn't enough to ice the cake and the cupcakes. So I put some more butter in the microwave to defrost. Well instead of defrost I just put it on regular heat for 2 minutes. Needless to say there was a pool of butter in my microwave. AHHHHHH!
The kids were supposed to arrive at our house at 10:30 for the party, and by some miracle I was able to get everything done before they got there.
The party was a lot of fun and the kids were so cute!

Saturday Afternoon
When the kids all left I was so exhausted that I had to take a nap. One of Hannah's little friends Maylee stayed to play (May is 6). I told Chad to look after the girls while i took a nap. When I woke up about 2 hours later, Chad was laying next to me and the girls were downstairs by themselves. I went down to check on them, and the house was a disaster. I don't know how many cupcakes they both had, but they were gone!! AHHHHHH!!
There was a present from Grammy on a shelf in the living room that were were saving for the next day, which was opened and all over the floor. When I asked Hannah why she opened it and how did she even know it was for her she said "Well I asked Maylee what the card said and she said To Hannah Love Grammy, so I knew it was for me." Fair enough.
The rest of the night included me trying to clean up and finishing the cake for our family party the next day.
Sunday
We had a wonderful family party that consisted of my parents, Jaci and Brett, Grandma and Grandpa Great, my aunt Billie and our friends Nisha and Adam. We had a good meal and great cake. (I have to admit it was hard to actually cut into it).
All in all it was a great weekend, busy, but great

Happy Birthday Hannah

I can't believe that our little girl is three years old.  Where has the time gone.  It has been fun to look back on all the fun pictures I have to put this video together.  I hope you enjoy watching it!!
