Green Eggs and Ham!!

Last week was Dr. Seuss week in first grade.  It was a lot of fun, and we got to do many crazy projects.  We made Dr. Seuss creatures and then wrote stories about them.  This was one of my favorite activities.  The kids were so creative, and they loved it.

On Friday, we made green eggs and ham.  I told the kids on Thursday that we were going to do this, and they were completely grossed out.  In fact on Friday morning I had a student go home early and I suspect that he was a little nervous about Green Eggs and Ham.
Anyway, we started by putting all the steps to make them on the board.  The kids had to tell me which order the steps went in.  Then, I introduced sequencing words, like first, then, after, finally.  Finally I gave them each a bowl with an egg in it, a cup of milk, a bag with ham in it, and they had to follow the steps.  One little girl cracked her egg and it dripped all down the front of her.  She immediately went into hysterics.  I have to say, that out of 28 kids, I was pretty impressed that I only had one egg disaster.
When it came time to trying the eggs, the kids made me try first.  They were really funny.  Most of them loved the eggs and asked if we could make more.  I know they look pretty gross, but they actually weren't too bad.  The worst part was having my room smell like eggs for the rest of the afternoon.

YUMMY!!!

Yeah, that looks sick. You and your kids were pretty brave. But, the story is convincing. SAY! I like green eggs and ham!
